Already today, machines help to significantly reduce the cost of production, to make medicine and science more effective. Over time humanity began to fear artificial intelligence, because it supposedly will create huge unemployment. However, it is not. Experts prove: people can collaborate with bots and achieve great results without losing jobs.
Robots among people: Japanese experiment
The level of development of robotics increases every day. It is possible to remember recent successful development of Boston Dynamics. In China, even a factory where artificial intelligence will build bots on their own is established. It is believed that automated systems are able to interact well only with each other, and the human in the process is needless. However, Japanese scientists proved: That’s not so.
Experts tested the mechanism by which AI will work with people.
The authors of the idea are employees of the University of Tokyo. The head of the scientific group is Masatoshi Ishikawa. According to media reports, professionals designed an interactive system that ensures effective cooperation of the machine and human. Development allows AI to adapt to collaboration as quickly as possible, and understand what is required of it in different situations.
The project is a manipulator with three “fingers” on the mechanized “hand”. The researchers equipped the device with infrared sensors and a tracking mechanism, which was achieved with the help of a high-precision camera. The robot is able to catch even the smallest details in human movements and predict what the “partner” will do next. Based on this information, artificial intelligence determines how to adjust. However, for effective work on the subject, it is necessary to apply a special markers.
Professionals from the Land of the Rising Sun taught the machine to rotate objects around two axes and move so that they are constantly in a horizontal position. Researchers argue about the need for further development of system but already now note a tremendous progress. It is necessary to make the interaction even better, and then the manipulators can be implemented in assembly shops and for loading operations.
Japanese scientists demonstrated how the technology works. A special plate was fixed on the metal cylinder. One edge was captured by the mechanized “hand”, and the second by the human. Artificial intelligence ideally repeated the trajectory of movement of people. The video was published on the Institute’s YouTube channel.
Science is also engaged in the study of communication skills of machines. In particular, the staff of the University of Koblenz-Landau conducted a study to find out how good an assistant would be a robot. AI was offered to advice participants of the experiment a gift for their mother, search for information and organize a conference. The results were interesting. Most people who communicated with artificial intelligence in the real world perceived it as a living interlocutor.
Experts note that while a person is not ready for such a close interaction with the machines. The main reason, according to them, was the lack of knowledge about technology. With the spread of information among the population, all phobias will disappear.
