Copernicium places the periodic table in question
Because of the 112-th element of the periodic system of Dmitry Mendeleev, the whole law, compiled by the eminent chemist, ceases to work and raises many doubts. This was told by the scientific Advisor of Dubna laboratory of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research Yuri Oganessian. He said that earlier his colleagues agreed that the periodic law loses its force after one hundred and twenty-third, but now we are talking about that copernicium “breaks” the whole system. This is a minor difference, but it may be related to relativistic effects, according to the scientist. The crux of the matter is that according to the law of periodic copernicium must have the properties of liquid metals, but this is not visible in the experiments.
Copernicium, which ruined everything
Oganessian said that copernicium is able to form amalgams, but they differ greatly. Classic metal alloys disintegrate when heated to 160 degrees Celsius, and alloys with copernicium disintegrate at zero degrees. This is all the more strange that from a physical point of view electrons from mercury and copernicium behave almost identically. Since 1940, scientists have created 26 transuranic elements.
Oganessian added that the difference between flerovium (the 114th element in the periodic table) and lead is even greater. He is convinced that the elements that are heavier than oganesson (located on the 118th place in the periodic table and named after Oganessian himself) exist, and his laboratory will not stop at 120 elements and their nuclei – Oganessian and his staff intend to move on, while the existing equipment will be enough sensitive. Then it will be necessary to update the fleet of equipment and reach new limits. Interestingly, some time ago scientists from the Siberian Federal University came to the conclusion that Mendeleev lied that he saw the periodic table in a dream. So, Professor Saykova found evidence that 1 March 1869 scientist closed in his office and began to sign the symbols and characteristics of the chemical elements on the back of business cards, and saw the whole picture only after some time.
According to Saykova, the scientist in the process changed the atomic masses, moved the elements to different places in the table, some fields were left empty, since these elements were not yet open, and some he could only guess. So he entered into the table eka-aluminium, ekasilici and ekabor, which at that time had not yet been discovered by chemists. Mendeleev absolutely believed in his discovery, immediately sent the periodic table to the printing house, after which it gradually spread among domestic and foreign chemists. Mendeleev for the rest of his life supported the myth that he dreamed all this, although in fact it turns out that the table is the result of his long work, trial and error. And only a few years after the discovery it became clear that Dmitry Mendeleev made a truly amazing discovery, which now violates the properties of copernicium.
